SBI e-Mudra ₹50,000: who qualifies for the online route
SBI's e-Mudra is the online route for a Shishu loan of up to ₹50,000. To use it you must already hold an SBI savings or current account that is at least six months old, be aged between 18 and 65, and be borrowing for an eligible micro enterprise. The maximum tenure is five years. Above ₹50,000 the online route ends and the application becomes a branch conversation.
Two things worth being clear about
- There is no such thing as guaranteed approval. The credit guarantee under this scheme protects the lender against a portion of a default. It is not approval for the borrower, and a default still lands on your credit record and is still recovered from you.
- The loan does not come from the government. MUDRA Ltd. refinances lending institutions and the loan is guaranteed under CGFMU. The loan itself comes from a bank, NBFC or MFI, and the sanction decision is that institution's alone.
What it costs per month
Pre-set to 8.5%, the reference starting rate for public sector bank lending under this scheme. There is no scheme-set rate - change it to the rate you have actually been quoted to see your real instalment, total interest and full repayment schedule.
Monthly EMI
₹10,258
₹5 Lakh at 8.50% for 5 years
Interest is 23% of the amount borrowed over this tenure.
Year-by-year repayment schedule
How each year splits between interest and principal. Early years are mostly interest, which is why prepaying early saves so much more than prepaying late.
| Year | Principal paid | Interest paid | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ₹83,815 | ₹39,285 | ₹4,16,185 |
| 2 | ₹91,223 | ₹31,876 | ₹3,24,962 |
| 3 | ₹99,286 | ₹23,813 | ₹2,25,676 |
| 4 | ₹1,08,062 | ₹15,037 | ₹1,17,614 |
| 5 | ₹1,17,614 | ₹5,485 | ₹0 |
This calculator returns arithmetic on the figures you enter. It is not an offer, does not check your eligibility, and cannot predict the rate a lender will sanction. Loans Got Easy is an authorised Direct Selling Agent - we do not sanction, approve or disburse loans.
The four conditions
An existing SBI savings or current account, at least six months old - this is the condition that stops most applicants, and there is no way around it other than time. Age between 18 and 65. An amount up to ₹50,000, which places it in Shishu. And an eligible enterprise: manufacturing, services, trading including retail, or allied agriculture. The six-month account history is what makes the online route possible at all, because it gives SBI transaction data to assess instead of documents to verify.
Why the limit is ₹50,000 and what happens above it
₹50,000 is the top of the Shishu category, and Shishu is the only tier light enough to be assessed from account history alone. Above it the lender needs business proof, filed returns and usually field verification, none of which can be done through a web form. If you need ₹2 lakh, e-Mudra is not a route to it - you are looking at Kishore through a branch, with a current account and Udyam registration. Applicants often try the online route first because it is visible and easy, then lose time before starting the application they actually needed.
What it does not do
It does not bypass credit assessment. SBI still looks at your record and your account conduct, and an account that runs to zero or shows returned items will not carry the application regardless of its age. It is also not instant in the sense the phrase is usually used - availability of a decision depends on the bank's own eligibility norms, and we do not promise timelines. What it removes is the paperwork and the branch queue, not the assessment.
If you do not bank with SBI
The route is closed to you, and opening an account now starts a six-month clock. The practical alternatives are a Shishu application at a branch of a bank where you do have history, an approach through the Udyamimitra or JanSamarth portals which place one application in front of several lenders, or a regional rural bank if you are outside a metro. None of these are online, but all of them are open today. Loans Got Easy is a loan advisory and Direct Selling Agent. We help prepare and place the file. We do not sanction, approve or disburse, and we cannot influence a scheme outcome - that decision belongs to the lending institution.
