How to Apply for a Mudra Loan: the three routes and which one fits

There are three ways to apply for a Mudra loan. A bank branch is the main route and the only one available above ₹50,000. SBI's e-Mudra handles Shishu online up to ₹50,000, for existing SBI customers whose account is at least six months old. The Udyamimitra and JanSamarth portals act as aggregators, letting you put one application in front of several lenders and get in-principle responses. Prepare the file before you start, whichever route you take.

Two things worth being clear about

  • There is no such thing as guaranteed approval. The credit guarantee under this scheme protects the lender against a portion of a default. It is not approval for the borrower, and a default still lands on your credit record and is still recovered from you.
  • The loan does not come from the government. MUDRA Ltd. refinances lending institutions and the loan is guaranteed under CGFMU. The loan itself comes from a bank, NBFC or MFI, and the sanction decision is that institution's alone.

Route one: the branch

This is where most Mudra lending happens and the only option above ₹50,000. Approach a bank where you already hold an account if you can - an existing relationship with visible transaction history is a genuine advantage, because the branch can see your banking conduct without taking it on trust. Carry the complete file rather than submitting in stages. Expect field verification, and expect the process to be paced by the branch's workload. We do not promise timelines and neither should anyone else.

Route two: SBI e-Mudra, for Shishu only

The genuinely online route, and the one behind most of the search interest in the ₹50,000 figure. You need to be an existing SBI savings or current account holder with the account at least six months old, aged between 18 and 65, and applying for up to ₹50,000 over up to five years. The process runs through SBI's portal with Aadhaar-based verification. Above ₹50,000 it stops being online and becomes a branch conversation.

Route three: the aggregator portals

Udyamimitra and JanSamarth let you place one application in front of multiple lending institutions and receive in-principle responses. They are useful for finding a lender when you have no existing banking relationship, or when a branch has already declined. An in-principle response is not a sanction - the lender still runs its full assessment afterwards, and a file that is thin will fall over at that stage regardless of what the portal indicated.

Where applications stall

Consistently at the same points. An incomplete file submitted in the hope that the rest can follow. Documents that contradict each other. A field verification that finds nothing happening. And an amount that is not proportionate to what the statements show the business earns. None of these are about the merits of the business, which is what makes them frustrating and also what makes them fixable before you apply rather than after you are declined.

Where we fit

Loans Got Easy is a loan advisory and Direct Selling Agent. We help prepare and place the file. We do not sanction, approve or disburse, and we cannot influence a scheme outcome - that decision belongs to the lending institution. What we do is get the file right before it goes in: check the documents against each other, make sure the amount is proportionate to what the statements support, and place it with a lender whose criteria your profile actually fits rather than the nearest branch.
