Mudra Loan in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: which banks, and what branches ask

Mudra lending across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh runs through the same institutions as elsewhere - public sector banks, regional rural banks such as Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank, private banks, NBFCs and microfinance institutions. Telangana's State Level Bankers' Committee maintains a dedicated PMMY page with application forms in Telugu and English. What varies locally is not the scheme but which lenders are practically approachable and what a given branch expects in the file.

Two things worth being clear about

  • There is no such thing as guaranteed approval. The credit guarantee under this scheme protects the lender against a portion of a default. It is not approval for the borrower, and a default still lands on your credit record and is still recovered from you.
  • The loan does not come from the government. MUDRA Ltd. refinances lending institutions and the loan is guaranteed under CGFMU. The loan itself comes from a bank, NBFC or MFI, and the sanction decision is that institution's alone.

Who lends here

Public sector banks carry the bulk of Mudra lending in both states, and they are usually the lower-priced route. Regional rural banks matter more than their national share suggests - Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank runs PMMY across its footprint and is often the more approachable option in smaller towns where a national bank branch has no relationship with the applicant. Private banks and NBFCs lend at higher rates but consider profiles the public sector declines. Microfinance institutions operate at the Shishu end, particularly for women's self-help group members.

Allied agriculture is a bigger deal here than the national guidance suggests

Dairy, poultry, beekeeping and fisheries are eligible under the scheme, and all four are commercially significant across both states. A very large number of applicants in district and mandal areas read 'non-farm enterprise' as excluding anything rural and never apply. That is a misreading: crop farming is outside the scheme, but a dairy unit, a poultry shed or a fisheries operation is squarely within it. If you run one, you are in scope.

What branches here actually ask for

The same file as anywhere - PAN, Aadhaar, statements, Udyam, business proof - but two local patterns are worth knowing. Branches in Hyderabad and the larger AP cities lean heavily on field verification, and a unit that is shut on the day of the visit undoes a good file. And in smaller towns, an existing account relationship at the branch counts for more than it does in a metro, because the branch is assessing someone it can see rather than a file it has to take on trust. Where you have a functioning account with visible receipts, start there.

Language and forms

Telangana SLBC publishes PMMY application material in Telugu as well as English, and most branches in both states will process the file in Telugu. This is worth mentioning because applicants who are uncomfortable in English sometimes bring an intermediary who then becomes the point of contact - which tends to slow things down. You can deal with the branch directly. Loans Got Easy is a loan advisory and Direct Selling Agent. We help prepare and place the file.
